Guy Timberlake is Chief Visionary Officer and Chief Executive Officer of The American Small Business Coalition (The ASBC), an innovative membership, education and networking organization aiding companies around the world with finding, qualifying and winning business opportunities in the government sector, and assisting government agencies with identifying viable industry partners to support their business and mission requirements. He is responsible for establishing the organization's operational tempo and leverages a well-developed network of current and former Government officials and Industry executives to benefit The ASBC constituency. Under Guy's leadership, The American Small Business Coalition is credited with enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of small government contractors, facilitating hundreds of productive partnerships between small, mid-tier and large companies, and contributing to the successful capture of contracts and subcontracts resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in receivables for member companies and contract and corporate employment opportunities for thousands of individual professionals.
Since founding the organization in 2004 with Margaret, his wife and President of The ASBC, Guy continues to lead the way by connecting companies of all sizes and disciplines with influencers and decision-makers from Government and Industry using effective information exchanges, and orchestrating the development of relevant and timely competitive intelligence through related forums. Additionally, The ASBC has hosted managers, directors and senior officials from multiple organizations within DoD, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, DISA, SBA, Transportation (DOT), Homeland Security (DHS), GSA, HHS, Labor, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, USDA, CIA, NSA, DIA, INSCOM and more. Guy frequently receives invitations to participate in agency and company-hosted annual conferences and government/industry partnership-building programs such as the SAF/AQC Acquisition CEO Roundtable (hosted by the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition). Guy and The ASBC also coordinate government-hosted matchmaking opportunities such as the Social Security Administration Information Technology Support Services Contract (ITSSC) Subcontractor Matchmaking Event key opportunities to develop awareness and essential information for members of The ASBC and other small businesses. Guy and The ASBC have been commended by officials from Social Security Administration, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of the Army and Department of State for outreach and education assistance to each agency's industrial base.
For over a decade, Guy has been the face of the organization referred to as a "force multiplier" and "a lifeline for small businesses in the federal space" and continues to expand the organization's reach through targeted relationship development. Due in part to its dedication to member success, The ASBC has received countless testimonials from businesses who have realized benefits ranging from bona fide teaming opportunities and subcontracts, to direct awards from the government exceeding $60 million dollars. Within six months of launching, The ASBC contributed to a Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business in Columbus, Ohio learning of and being awarded a $25 million dollar contract by the Government. This award was their ‘tipping point’ as the company went on to grow from annual revenues of one million dollars to more than $500 million dollars in less than ten years.
Many companies attribute their growth to The ASBC's assistance and those outgrowing small business eligibility often leverage the organization by reaching back to identify viable small business partners and actionable market intelligence.
Guy entered government contracting nearly thirty years ago by way of the U.S. Intelligence Community where he supported TEMPEST manufacturing operations for MESA Technology/NAI Technologies, a small government contractor. Initially, he supported transportation and military specification (MILSPEC) packaging activities and was quickly given increased responsibilities supporting Work In Process (WIP) operations, collaborating with TEMPEST and Systems Engineers and supporting Quality Control and Purchasing. His growth continued as he moved up to support Contracts Administration (his first exposure to the FAR) and Corporate Marketing where he collaborated with and supported veteran sales and business development professionals. In this role Guy communicated with MESA/NAI customers from multiple defense and intelligence agencies supporting task and delivery order contracts for critical communications and information systems. After his time at MESA/NAI Guy began the transition from federal sales neophyte to experienced and proven business development professional, achieving successes that included technology solutions in support of the F/A-18 Electronic Classrooms Program (Cecil Field, Turner Field and Whiting Field) for the Navy; voice and video solutions for telemedicine/teleradiology trials for the Army (Project Seahawk); wearable computer solutions for the 56th Communications Squadron, Luke AFB; a multi-million dollar telecommunications infrastructure upgrade for the NOAA (East-West Highway) Building; Video Deposition Systems for Federal Courthouses for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (AOUSC), and a $70 million dollar task order for Global Communications Support for the U.S. Army Reserve Command(USARC) under the GSA Connections contract, his final win prior to launching The ASBC.
Guy is a recognized resource for many articles in industry, regional and national publications such as Federal Computer Week, Washington Technology, Federal Times, GovernmentVAR, Government Executive, Washington Post and Inc. Magazine and has also contributed articles to Washington Business Journal and WBJ FedBizDaily. He has been featured on News Channel 8, and continues to be featured on Federal News Radio (WFED) and CBS Radio DC (WNEW). Guy regularly publishes to the Chief Visionary's Blog, The ASBC's forum for his thought and opinions on happening's in the government contracting community. In 2009, he was nominated by members of The ASBC and subsequently selected as one of twenty Washington Business Journal 2009 Minority Business Leaders and continues to support this recognition program as a judge.
In addition to serving as advisor to a number of small companies engaged in federal contracting, he is a member of the Board of Directors for American Freedom Foundation and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA International) and Technical Advisor and Subject Matter Expert for the Maryland Defense Network, a collaboration of the U.S. Department of Defense, Maryland Department of Commerce and Towson University. He has served on the Board of Directors for Casey Cares Foundation, the Board of Advisors for Tigerlily Foundation and The Veterans Entrepreneurial Training (VET) Program at The Veterans Enterprise Training and Services Group (The VETS Group). He was a member of the Advisory Board for the College of Arts and Sciences at Bowie State University and Board of Governors at the exclusive Tower Club in McLean, VA.
Guy is a native of Richmond, VA and resides in Columbia, MD where he, Margaret and their daughter live with their cats and enjoy making homemade pizza and pasta for friends and family.
