NAICS Code Impact On Small Business | FBI HQ On-Hold | Marines Add Electronic Warfare Force | ASBC Member Perks Rolling In!

Here's a look at some of the updates posted in the Featured Articles section of the GovConChannel this week:

  • Federal News Radio says "GSA, DHS begin to tip their hand about future of CDM program
  • FCW found out that the "VA chief swears off software development"
  • FCW also reports "IGs: Budget cuts could put cybersecurity at risk"
  • and many more!
There's another one we'd like you to look at and respond to if you are so inclined. NAICS Codes are a well-known and mysterious aspect of federal contracting. Well-known because so many talk about them, and mysterious because so few truly understand their use and meaning. NAICS Codes are considered by many to be the single classification needed to 'crack the code' on understanding how and what agencies buy, which adds to the mystery since NAICS Codes are not intended to describe what is being purchased. That's the job of Product Service Codes, a classification system in use long before NAICS Codes came on the government contracting scene.

All of the confusion about NAICS Codes exists on both sides of the aisle. That's right, both Government and Industry have issues with this system. Why else are there protests challenging how NAICS Codes are assigned to federal contracts? This is part of the reason The American Small Business Coalition is meeting with a federal agency this week, to discuss the use of NAICS Codes and the impact of use and misuse on small business concerns. Interested? If so, take a look at this article and comment or send us your feedback as we'll include it with our submission to the agency. Stay tuned for follow-up from this meeting, too.

Don't forget, open enrollment for SAGE is here!
