Colonel Chuck Mehle currently serves as the Commander, Joint Transformation Command for Intelligence. He assumed command June 2007 after serving as Deputy J2 (J2A), Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia.
Colonel Mehle was born on 21 October 1959 in Bethesda, Maryland to Rear Admiral & Mrs. Roger W. Mehle, US Navy. After high school graduation from Frederick Military Academy in Portsmouth, Virginia, he enrolled in ROTC at New Mexico Military Institute in 1977 and was commissioned a US Army Second Lieutenant in May 1979. COL Mehle continued his college education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University while simultaneously serving as an Infantry Heavy Weapons Platoon Leader with B Company, 116th Infantry Brigade, Virginia Army National Guard. His military schools include the Military Intelligence Officer's Basic Course, the Strategic Signals Intelligence Course, the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course, the Aviation Officer's Advanced Course, the Fixed Wing Multi-Engine Qualification Course, the OV-1D "Mohawk" Transition Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the US Army’s Command & General Staff College, the National Defense University’s Joint & Combined Staff Officer School and the US Army War College. COL Mehle has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech, a Masters Degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College..

Colonel Mehle was promoted Colonel on 1 August 2003. As a 15C35, he is a Military Intelligence Officer specializing in collection of both airborne and ground tactical and strategic intelligence. He is qualified in the OH-58 (A/C), UH-1H and TH-55 helicopters as well as the C-182, C-210, PA-38, U-21, RU-21, C-12, RC-12, OV-1D, RV-1D, EO-5B, DHC-7 and several other non-standard fixed-wing aircraft. He has logged over 5,000 rotary and fixed-wing flight hours to include over 150 combat flight hours in South West Asia.
His awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit; the Bronze Star; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal (4th OLC); the Air Medal; the Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal; the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal (7th OLC); the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal (w/Star); the Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 campaign stars; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal; the Meritorious Unit Commendation award, the Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation award; the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal (SA & KU), the Korea Defense Service Medal; the Global War on Terror Service Medal; the National Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Ribbon (2), the Joint Staff Identification Badge and the Master Aviator Qualification Badge. He is the recipient of both the Knowlton Award for achievement within Military Intelligence as well as the Brigadier General Ricardo Charry Solano “Medalia De Intelligencia” presented by the government of Colombia.
Colonel Mehle is married to the former Julia Sortore of Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have been married twenty years and have two daughters, Sara, age nineteen and Patricia, age sixteen. They reside in King’s Grant Landing in Virginia Beach.
