Ms. Wanda Alexis Alexander

Principal, President and CEO, Horizon Consulting Incorporated, Lansdowne, VA

Wanda Alexis Alexander is a native Washingtonian, a product of the DC and Prince George’s County public schools and a 1981 graduate of the University of Maryland College Park. With several years of experience in asset management, portfolio supervision and debt restructuring strategies for financially distressed multi-family real estate, Ms. Alexander purchased a majority stake in Horizon Consulting Incorporated in September of 1995, immediately assuming the positions of President and CEO of the company.

Horizon Consulting is a minority and women-owned business specializing in high volume work flow management and consulting services to a wide variety of local, state and federal government agencies. Headquartered in Lansdowne, Virginia, Horizon is the leader in project management and processing high volume work efficiently. Since coming on board, Wanda and her team have been committed to honesty, integrity, professionalism, and hard work in all of the company’s business relationships and have established Horizon as an environment where employees are fulfilled in their work and can obtain the training and tools necessary to successfully grow as leaders. The company’s commitment to these core values has resulted in a 95% renewal rate on its federal contracts and excellent references from customers.

Having been personally active in philanthropy for close to 30 years, Ms. Alexander has been involved with organizations that have created scholarships for minority women, taught investment training to elementary youth and mentored teens and young ladies through and after college. Ms. Alexander’s passion for nurturing, encouraging and developing future business leaders comes through a commitment to giving back and serving in the business community in the following ways:

  • Holding a board membership with BUILD Metro DC, a program that provides real-world entrepreneurial experience for youth of under-resourced communities;
  • Serving on the Loudoun County Advisory Board for BB&T Bank;
  • Serving on the Economic Advisory Council for the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce (for which Wanda was recently nominated for the Board of Directors);
  • Serving as the President of the Board of Directors for the Lansdowne Professional Offices and
  • Serving as a volunteer guest lecturer on business ethics at the University of Maryland’s Colvin School of Real Estate Development, her alma mater.

Ms. Alexander has previously been a guest speaker for the SBA to address new 8(a) members and share her experience and knowledge of government contracting. As a result, she and the company have been recognized and honored by the SBA and the Loudoun County Commission on Women for her business leadership and her advocacy and support of women in business. She closed out the 2009 year as a guest speaker for the Sterling Women’s Holiday Luncheon; was recently invited to participate in a roundtable on Diversity for the American Institutes of Architects (AIA) Conference and engaged the audience at the GSA’s ‘Women's History Month' celebration as the key note speaker in April 2010.
