I don't know too many people who would disagree that federal contracting has gotten more sophisticated and contractors are subject to ever-increasing scrutiny. While there are a number of great practitioners who start or join government contracting focused ventures everyday, folks who truly understand the in's and out's of complying with the many rules and regulations are fewer in number. That's why it's good to have access to reliable sources of information to help you "stay between the lines" so you don't end up on the wrong end of a terminated contract, fine or worse.SBGC

GovConnections Mixer and Book Signing 6/27
To that end, I'm excited to tell you about a new reliable source that we'll be featuring at the GovConnections network mixer on June 27th. In addition to really good GovCon grip and grin opportunities, we're also featuring a book signing for author Steven Koprince who's hard cover help desk just got released on June 6th.

The Small-Business Guide To Government Contracts is not about finding and winning business in the government sector, it's about the rules associated with affiliation, ostensible subcontractor, size standards, the socioeconomic programs and much more!

In addition to Steven being on-hand to discuss the book and his extensive research, he'll be signing copies as well. In fact, the first twenty registrants will receive a complimentary copy of this handy guide. You can also purchase copies of the book during registration for the low price of $21.99 each (order by the 20th and it will be waiting for you at the event).

Simplified Acquisitions - The Streamlined Purchase Process
The SAP Task Force presents substantive information on how, what and where government agencies make purchases using the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) - one of the easiest methods for acquiring goods and services to support government business and mission operations. In addition to Simplified Acquisitions: A Missed Opportunity for Small Government Contractors offered in-person and via webinar under The ASBCs of Government Contracting, you can now participate in an agency-by-agency, market research-centric deep dive during the Simplified Acquisition Spotlight. This program offers a tactical view of business activities and opportunities at a specific agency. We're online the second and fourth Monday of each month.

The newest contribution to your business development efforts is the Simplified Acquisition Snapshot, a complimentary, weekly blog entry that reviews federal agency SAP spending state-by-state that highlights top agencies/sub-agencies, what's being purchased and a little trivia you can answer to win free passes to the Spotlight webinars.

Going off-topic this week:
'Footloose' and high school graduations in SC and OH

As the father of a two year old, education is something at the top of my list of things to consider. So when I saw articles this weekend that talked about parents in South Carolina being arrested in one instance, or a kid having their diploma withheld until they or their parents completed 20 hours of community service for committing the crime of 'disorderly conduct' which is known as (in the remaining sane states) parents cheering when their child's name is called during a high school graduation.

Really? Is your school system doing that dang good that your priority list is topped with 'ensure an orderly graduation assembly' and arrest anyone that cheers?

I wonder if John Lithgow can reprise his role as Rev. Shaw Moore and offer some healing for these real-life "Bomont's"
