Simplified Acquisition Snapshot: Texas

They say they do things bigger in Texas and this turns out to be true even for streamlined purchasing by federal agencies. While the Lone Star State accounts for fewer contract actions year-to-date than New York whom we featured last week, Texas accounts for $80million dollars more in spending than the Empire State coming in just over $190 million dollars in goods and services purchased since 10/1/11. Keep in mind this is only based on awards where the place of performance is Texas.

The agencies leading in the way of 'the most contract actions issued' are GSA, Justice, DoD, VA and Homeland Security. If you shuffle that group around and swap out GSA for Treasury, you end up with the top spenders YTD: DoD, Justice, Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs and Treasury (Members: Click links to see sub-agency and product spending summaries).

One last piece of information.

While most of the awards went to companies located in Texas, $40 million was awarded to companies located in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida and California. These folks are getting their frequent flier miles!

Weekly SAP Market Research Trivia:
#1 - Of these top five agencies, can anyone tell us the top five sub-agencies ranked by most dollars spent with Texas as the place of performance?

#2 - The Department of Defense is tops in Texas for overall spending YTD. tell us the top two DoD sub-agencies for Texas (Hint: These two agencies rank number 1 and number 3 respectively, for the top five sub-agencies (see trivia question #1).

Answer either question and win a prize. Answer both questions and we'll give you a pass to three of our upcoming webinars.

By the way, if your name happens to be Brad Glasco (Microsoft), Aimee Cubbage (TASC) or Casey Coleman (GSA), you are disqualified from submitting a response under the 'Native Texans' rule! Everyone else is allowed to venture a guess (or two) for a chance to be our guest at an upcoming Simplified Acquisition Spotlight webinar of your choice.
