We hope you are recovering from fiscal year end activities and are well into implementing your plans for FY2010. Have a great week!
Here's how we started the new fiscal year...
Last Monday, we kicked things off with the launch of our new PrimeConnect™ Teaming Event which provides a high-value, qualified interaction between pre-vetted small
business teaming partners and a company designated as "other than small
businesses" with a specific strategic or tactical need to identify
companies who bring one or more of the following attributes: specific/unique product or service not provided by the prime; institutional knowledge of customer; related past performance; or relevant contract vehicle which limits competition and/or streamlines the procurement process. PrimeConnect™ activities are one of the benefits associated with our PrimeConnection™ Corporate Membership program.
This first event featured our Founding Member, Mission Essential Personnel
(MEP) conducting team-building for upcoming opportunities with DoD
Intelligence Agencies. Representatives from thirty companies who had
been pre-vetted to participate in the event, met with capture and
program officials from MEP with the intent of securing a position on
David Simon, Director of Intelligence Programs at Mission Essential Personnel, LLC discusses the company's scope of services during our recent PrimeConnect™ Teaming Event at the Tower Club.
We already have the next PrimeConnect™ event scheduled for Wednesday, October 7th. This one is a conference call for companies interested in supporting the activities of the Navy Metalworking Center, an Office of Naval Research contract held by PrimeConnection™ Member, Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC). Details can be viewed below in the General Update.
We closed things out on Friday with an outstanding presentation and discussion on tips for identifying, pursuing and capturing opportunities at the Department of Homeland Security by Kay Olive of Olive Strategies and the Washington Homeland Security Roundtable. Kay joined us at the monthly Small Business Intelligence Community Group (SBINT) meeting in Annapolis Junction, MD.
Jae Collins, COO at Prime Solutions and chair of the Small Business Intelligence Community Group, presents The ASBC Fifth Anniversary Challenge Coin to guest speaker Kay Olive at the October SBINT.
Additionally, this very encouraging feedback from CORE™ Small Business Member Evans & Chambers Technology, LLC also added a little pep to our step:
"Thanks for meeting with Evans & Chambers Technology to discuss our StratReview™.
The discussion was very informative and reminded me of the value of
ASBC membership. In fact, many of the action items you gave us are
being incorporated into our quarterly plan."

topic which drives significant Q&A is "How do we conduct effective
identification of information to support opportunity-based decision-making?"
Beginning later this month, our Market Intelligence and Education Committee will roll out a new activity called the Market Intelligence Roundtable,
which will initially consist of members-only monthly meetings in:
Southern, Maryland; Columbia, Maryland; Northern Virginia and
Washington, DC. Each meeting is limited to fifteen participants
representing companies doing business as government contractors or as
teaming partners/subcontractors to companies with government contracts.
The goal of each facilitated discussion: sharing tips and tactics for
conducting successful market research in the government sector to
increase your chances of identifying and qualifying business
opportunities and increasing your win/probability. Stay tuned.

Fiscal Year End Wrap-up, SBA Style!
There's been the usual chatter
about fiscal year end activities, fallout money, and last minute business garnered by
Industry, but what about the perspective from Government?
Last week we caught up with our
friend Bridget Bean
, Director of the Small Business Administration's Washington
Metropolitan Area District Office to have her sum it up for us.
Bridget Bean, SBA District Director
"FY 2009 was an exciting and
challenging year for the SBA, and specifically, the Washington Metropolitan
Area District Office (WMADO). Although final numbers are not in yet, the
WMADO booked approximately $130 million in loans to small businesses, $14
million to Veterans, and $40 million to small business in underserved markets.
We trained 55 lenders, recruited 8
new SBA lenders, counseled and trained almost 8,000 current or future small
In the last 60 days of FY 09, the

We are committed to being a more
productive, efficient and effective office in FY 2010; each one of us proud to
serve the small businesses of the Washington Metropolitan Area!"
Thanks Bridget! Keep up the great work!
