From the President's Corner
Our Fifth Anniversary.
Celebrating a Culture of Collaboration and Success.
Everyone gets a specialtreat this month! A break from Guy as Ihave hijacked the CVO Corner and this month it's known as the President's Corner!! Things have been especially busy and hecticfor The ASBC over the past several months, in mostly a good way. We continue to grow with new Members joiningevery day. We are adding new programsand speakers that are providing great value to The ASBC Community. We could not do any of this without thesupport of our Members.
And our Members dosupport us not just as an organization, but as people too. I do have to say that The ASBC has the bestMembers anyone could ask for. Whenthings get tough, everyone puts out a hand and is willing to assist us in anyway, shape or form! We have not onlyover 400 Members, but we have a family of over 500 people and we are fun, exciting and dysfunctional family at that!! Thanks everyone for being so wonderful.
I am also a very proudbusiness partner and wife this month. Guy has been named one the Washington Business Journal's 2009 MinorityBusiness Leader Award recipients, which honorsthe Washington area's top twenty-five minority business leaders and owners whoexhibited outstanding performance for their companies within the last 12-18months. He will be honored at a luncheonon Thursday, April 2, 2009, at theMandarin Oriental and profiled in a special supplement of the April 3rd editionof the Washington Business Journal. If you are interested in attending the luncheon, The ASBC is more thanhappy to register you so we can purchase tables and all sit together to cheerthe big Guy on. Please click here for details!
Finally, The ASBC, andGuy and I are lucky enough this year to be celebrating our fifth anniversary asa company. As we look back, it feelslike just a few weeks ago that we hatched this idea of a membershiporganization for government contractors. Many people told us it would never work...they are now some of the mostardent supporters of The ASBC. Tocelebrate, we have a full-day conference and awards gala planned for April 23rd(which is also Guy's birthday)! Pleasecheck out the information in this newsletter to get more details about theevent - we have some great speakers already lined up, and several others thatwe are waiting for confirmation on. There are several economical sponsorship opportunities and other ways toshow your support. You have to read therest of the newsletter for more details!I hope to see you soon!Maggie

Current News and Information
The ASBC Fifth Anniversary
Registration for our BIG Fifth Anniversary Conference and Gala is open and we look forward to seeing you on April 23rd at the Sheraton Premier Tysons Corner. This is a big deal for us as we've booked a full day of activities to include keynotes by leaders from Government, and breakout sessions led by Government officials and Industry executives and professionals. You can get additional details from the press release being issued tomorrow morning!
For starters, the special edition of the Washington Breakfast Club which opens the conference features Shay Assad, Director of Defense Procurement, Acquisition Policy and Strategic Sourcing who will discuss the current and planned changes in DOD acquisitions, and the impact of the new administration on those acquisition strategies.
By the way, this is also the twenty-fifth year anniversary of the WBC!
We have breakout sessions planned for morning and afternoon and these sessions will cover topics such as BRAC, Recruiting and Retention of Employees in the government sector, Market Research Tactics and we've just confirmed that one of our breakouts will be led by a senior procurement official from the Department of Homeland Security.
Registration options include a Full Conference and Gala, Conference Only or just the Reception and Awards Dinner, it's your call.
Sponsorship Opportunities! With the help of the Fifth Anniversary Planning Committee we've come up with some effective, economical and really cool sponsorship opportunities!
Imagine having a photo booth with unlimited digital pictures and a backdrop that features your company logo in the background of every single picture taken during the reception and dinner! The "Freeze Frame" Photo Booth Sponsorship will give you exactly that!
Maybe a simple exposure opportunity where your logo plays on the big screen before and after the breakfast and/or lunch keynote speeches. Either the Breakfast or LunchKeynote Supporting Sponsorships give you that as well as pre-marketing exposure on the event website!
You could always opt to wait until the evening and register as a Reception/Awards Dinner Supporting Sponsor and be on the screen before the Member Awards are presented, and before the special announcement of a new memorial scholarship to benefit a ROTC program.
Congratulate The ASBC? Until Friday, March 6th we will be taking orders for "congratulatory ads" to be placed in a special edition printing of The ASBC Member Directory which will be mailed to many in Government and Industry, distributed at the Fifth Anniversary Conference and Gala and at all of our events that follow until the end of the quarter.
You can do a simple NAME LISTING, step up to a LOGO LISTING or move to a LOGO and PERSONAL MESSAGE LISTING. There will be at least 2000 copies of this printed not to mention the electronic version that is always available on our site
This is a bargain exposure opportunity priced at only $25/$75/$100 for Members and $50/$150/$200 for Not Yet Members.
We hope you'll join in as we celebrate "A Culture of Collaboration and Success" during our Fifth Anniversary!

Life In The ASBC: Kudos From Our MembersWe're always being asked "What is it about The ASBC that your Members like so much?" So we decided to let our Members tell you.
Some of you might know [Dr.] Chris Strasser, Executive Director for National Intelligence Solutions at Concurrent Technologies Corporation as the original program manager for CTC's DIA-SIA effort where we ended up with more than thirty Members of The ASBC on their winning team.
Well, we're at it again as The ASBC is coordinating "intake" of potential teaming partners for CTC on the NSA AMOD opportunity. Concurrent Technologies Corporation has been a CORE Member of The ASBC for four years now and below are some of the nice things Chris said about us when he was interviewed by Washington Technology about CTC's experience with The ASBC.
"[The]ASBC's greatest asset is that it offers small businesses "completelyindependent feedback that tells them where they fit in the [government]spectrum and what the value of their offering really is," he added. "Sothey can either hone their skills and improve their offering or targettheir offering at the right place so they get the full benefit of it."

Members In The News!
Why is David Bramwell so excited? That's because Gunny just found out it's time for Members In The News again!
This is where we feature highlights and recent articles about our Members as they go about doing the things they do.
If you happen to see our Members in the news, send us the link so we can include it next time.
Here we go!
Angela Dingle of Ex Nihilo Management has been selected as the WIPP National Partner of the Month! WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy) is a national bipartisan public policyorganization that advocates for and on behalf of women and minoritiesin business. (The ASBC is a WIPP Coalition Partner)
Angela was also featured along with our own Mark Amtower in the February 2nd Washington Technology Survival Guide article "Small businesses get ready for change".
In her spare time, Angela is also the chair of our Women President's, Owner's and Chief Executive's (Women's POCx) Group which has a meeting coming up on March 12th with Amy Morris of Federal News Radio.
We're not done yet!
Jennifer Bisceglie, President of InTEROS Solutions has been selected by Enterprising Women Magazine as one of the Top Women Entrepreneurs in North America for Class of 2009. This is no small deal as Jennifer and the rest of her class will be honored with a three-day tribute at the Disney Yacht Club Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
Way to go Jennifer!
Together, Jennifer and Angela make up two-thirds of the new "Musketeer-ish" group we're trying to learn more about. The vetting process for this new group is tougher than getting a clearance for the U.S. Intelligence Community and I'm busy searching for a kilt so I can make it past the first level!
Martin Saenz of Signs by Saenz has been accepted into the 2009 Turner Construction School of Construction Management for Minority & Women Business Enterprises through Stevenson University. Does this mean he's going to be able help me redo our deck next summer?
Molly Gimmel of Design-to-Delivery recently had an article published in thinkbusiness (the reincarnation of Smart Business Ideas magazine which is now totally online). Molly's article describes how government contractors can potentially increase their chances of winning business by documenting their management practices.

The ASBC Events Update
2009 has been especially good for theWashington Breakfast Club as we've had two sold out events already and look to be on our way to another!
If you are interested in supporting a 300-person division of the Air Force with a buget in excess of $200M, and you can help them field and sustain human resources information technology systems for Air Force A1 (Manpower and Personnel) then be sure to register for the March 19th WBC so you can sit down with Matthew Benavides, Deputy Director, Personnel Systems Division of the 554th Electronic Systems Group (554 ELSG/PN).
If you'll be in the area over the next month for a Business Over Breakfast event, stop in to give a video testimonial which will be posted to our portal and played at the Fifth Anniversary Awards Reception and Dinner. Maggie and I bought a new toy and will be setting up at breakfast to capture short clips from Members (and Not Yet Members too!).
