From the Chief Visionary
...and building relationships in the government sector is our business.
2008. What a year!
One thing about doing business in the government sector is that you'll never be bored. Think about some of the changes we've seen as of late:
- A GAO ruling changes the way the "Rule of Two" is applied on task-order/delivery order contract vehicles
- A U.S. Appeals Court rules that the Small Disadvantaged Business Concern set-aside program is unconstitutional as used by DoD
- Another GAO ruling seems to place the HUBZone program above all others
- General reform of the Small Business Programs is being called for by many in and around the industry
This is the time for everyone to pay particular attention to what your elected officials are doing "for" you and to ensure you impart your concerns and opinions.
Outside of our industry (for the most part) we're seeing the ravages of economic turmoil take its toll on other industries and our society at large.
Which brings me to a point of pride that Maggie and I share. Last week we hosted our annual holiday mixer which doubled as a benefit for the Tigerlily Foundation. During the event we held a charity silent auction and 50/50 raffle. You have an idea of where this is going, right?
In light of the economy, the holidays and everything else going on with everyone, you folks came through. That evening, you raised more than $3200 which was donated directly to Tigerlily, including the prize money Eileen Turcotte won during the raffle. She handed it right back to Tigerlily founder, Maimah Karmo.
Maggie and I consider ourselves blessed and fortunate to be in the company of such unselfish and truly good people.
Our Members, Friends and Associates are the best, bar none.
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year and Peace!

The Chief Visionary Blog: Me An Opinion?
The Chief Visionary Blog is where I publish information about theprogress of The ASBC and updates related to doing business in the government sector.
Reform and not removal
This entry was originally posted in Nick Wakeman's Editor's Notebook of Washington Technology, in response to his post "Is it time to reform small-business programs?"
Ever since the announcement of the GAO "Rule of Two" decision wasmade followed by the Rothe Development "SDB" court ruling, the snipershave upped the level of rhetoric bashing the usefulness of the SmallBusiness Program in Government Contracting.

In The News: Members and The ASBCSimply put, here are some recent articles highlighting our Members and The ASBC organization.
If you happen to see our Members in the news, send us the link so we can include it next time.
Special Mentions We hosted The ASBC 2008 Holiday Mixer at theTower Club last week which featured a silent auction and 50/50 raffle and benefited the Tigerlily Foundation, a charitable organization providing breast cancer awareness and support to young women. We've thanked our sponsors and all of the great people who donated items for the auction, and the feedback we've received from everyone who attended is that we "knocked it out ouf the park!" and we very much appreciate that.
But, there is no way that we could have pulled this off had it not been for the volunteers who gave of themselves (and in some cases gave of their families, too!) during the preparations and planning leading up to the event and the evening of the event.
Please join Maggie and I as we extend a heartfelt thanks to our volunteers!
