I cited the foll;owing statistics at the Business over Breakfast this morning at Tyson's, and Richard Dean sidled up to me and wanted to know where those numbers came from. So I thought I'd share them with everyone, not just Richard!

When OPEN by American Express commissioned research earlier this year based on a survey of over 1500 small businesses registered in CCR, they found:

- It takes a small business an average of 20 months, and an investment of $86,124 to win their first federal contract.
- 26% of the successful companies advised "Be Persistent!"
- 23% advised, "Start Small!"
