NSETS Industry Review 2.0: Priming, Teaming and Lessons Learned for Decision Support

Posted By Guy Timberlake, The American Small Business Coalition, LLC, Sunday, December 02, 2012

Here's why I think some of the stuff we do and the people who help us do it are pretty doggone cool.

Yes, I'm going to name drop, but in a kudos sort of way.

Last Friday (11/30) our Small Business Intelligence Community and Cyber BizOpps Working Group otherwise known as SBINT/CYBER, hosted an absolutely awesome industry exchange at the Loyola Graduate Center in Columbia, MD. Fortunately, my saying it was 'absolutely awesome' is reinforced by the forty or so folks who came up to tell me how good the content was and how this was an extremely good use of their time. Several folks even went as far to say that it helped them with decision-making.

That's pretty powerful.

While I appreciate the feedback and kudos we received, I want to make sure everyone knows where the heavy-lifting actually occurred.

First, we had great facilitators.

Steve Haynes of Purlia+Parris, LLC, an advisor to five White House administrations (national security), the Executive Office of the President, DHS (HQ, CERT, NPPD, NCSD), OSD and more, took me up on my invite to share his knowledge and insights about the impact of sequestration on National Security and what he thinks might actually happen with this fiscal cliff thing. I kinda' went out on a limb because this was an NSETS crowd so what might they think about this topic?

By all accounts, it was a home run that provided a substantive demystification for many!

Next, for our NSETS resources, we tapped Jacky Kimmel of InfoTek Corporation (who also is part of the leadership for SBINT/CYBER), Jae Collins of Prime Solutions and Steve Hornstein of Flywheel Growth. Their discussions included an industry overview of the NSA Set-Aside for Small Business program, challenges likely to be encountered by NSETS subcontractors and teaming partners, leveraging insights of NSETS II primes to strengthen one's position for the next NSETS and how past performance from other agencies can help, or not.

In addition to my wife and business partner, Margaret, the other folks who had functional roles and helped make the NSETS Industry Review 2.0 a great success were Michele Bull of TSource who is the co-chair of the SBINT/CYBER group, Richard Dean of Geneva Software who is essentially my brother and sounding board (whether he likes it or not) and Scott "Chief" Moors of Moors Technology who is always there when needed.

Then there are the sponsors for this event.  A big thanks to our Gold Sponsor Entegra Systems for jumping on-board at the earliest possible moment (I had just hit "enter" to post the event!), Collabraspace and Patriot Group were our Silver Sponsors, Advanced Government Solutions came on as a Bronze Sponsor, and Covenant Security Solutions and Flywheel Growth were our Breakfast Sponsors.

Last but not least, there were the one hundred industry executives and professionals mostly from small companies who registered and participated in a way that made the industry exchange that much more useful through Q&A and networking.

To everyone that contributed to our receiving multiple comments from our guests that included "This was one of the most informative and productive meetings I have participated in."

Thank you!

Peace.
