Humbled and Full of Pride for Our Community

Posted By Guy Timberlake, The American Small Business Coalition, LLC, Saturday, December 03, 2011
Too say that I am stunned in the most positive way, barely scratches the surface of the level of joy I am experiencing as a result of what happened this past Wednesday evening.

Swelling with pride that the Government Contracting Community and beyond, stepped up in a way that is unparalleled, at least for us.

In the first two years of the Holiday Charity Bash™ we set goals and surpassed them, but not like this. Anyone that attended this event in 2009 and/or 2010 will tell you they were successful ventures for networking and fundraising.

In 2009, the first year of the Holiday Charity Bash™, we set a goal to raise $5000 for our charity partner American Freedom Foundation (AFF). Our guests, donors, sponsors and volunteers responded by raising $6500.00 that evening.

In 2010, we set a goal to raise $7500 and you helped us raise just under $8000.00 for our Military Men and Women and their Families through AFF.

So, for 2011, we were feeling pretty good about ourselves. Why not, right? We set a goal to raise $10,000.00 for AFF. Two months after making that decision I began having nightmares. That's a lot to ask for considering the majority of our participants are local small government contractors.  But we stayed the course despite my growing anxiety.

The signs leading up to the event were different than previous years, in a positive way. All of our major sponsorships were sold months out. Pre-registration for the event was strong. In fact, it was so strong that we had twice as many guests pre-registered for 2011 than had attended the first two years combined. Hmm.

Then that day arrived. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in McLean, VA.

Oh what a night!

In addition to the folks from around the community who have supported the event since it started, there were Marines from the Wounded Warrior Regiment, Army Rangers (RLTW!) having a Rendezvous with us, and lots of other folks known to us and new to us.

By the end of the evening, we were able to present American Freedom Foundation co-founders Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army (ret.) Jack Tilley and Ted Hacker with a check for $13,000.00.

But we weren't done yet.

After recounts and verifications, the updated total we contacted AFF about earlier today is now $15,300.17. More than the amounts raised in 2009 and 2010, combined. Success!!!

What is there to say? Maggie and I are humbled by your actions and very, very proud to be a part of this community.

Thank you for your support of the Holiday Charity Bash™, American Freedom Foundation and the great men and women and their families who serve to protect our freedoms.
